The Importance of a Memorial

The Police Fire Memorial Foundation of Yonkers has been established by active and retired Police Officers and Firefighters as a not for profit dedicated to the brave men and women of Yonkers who have given their lives in the line of duty. The Police and Fire Memorial is in Untermyer Park and Gardens. Built in 2004, it pays tribute to the City of Yonkers Police Officers and Firefighters who have died in the line of duty. It also remembers and honors Police Officers and Firefighters who were residents of Yonkers and died serving in another community.  Due to our harsh winter weather, scorching summers, time, and erosion, we have found the Memorial in need of restoration. The steps are uneven and starting to fall apart, the paths are not useable by anyone with mobility problems, and even the words of tribute etched into the bricks have been worn down so that many are illegible. This should be a fitting tribute to those lives it honors: those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
We expect the renovation and restoration to start in early 2019.
